Last weekend was my family’s annual camping adventure to Pismo. We started the day at Paula’s Pancakes in Solvang. Guys, this place is so delicious, I can’t even tell you. Then we mosied through the Hans Christian Andersen Museum and Book Store and I bought a beautiful new addition to my collection of different publications of The Little Mermaid. Ahhh, I love it.
Basically the rest of the trip was also planned around food. Splash Cafe, soft serve ice cream at the campground, s’mores… You get it, we like to eat. The weather was really nice – pretty chilly except for some nice sun in the middle of the days.
Splash Cafe always has a line wrapped around the building, but it’s absolutely worth it in every way. Also, you get to people watch while you wait AND while you eat, ’cause people are constantly creepin’ in the windows to look at the menu. Pretty great.
The 4th was super foggy, which made for a really cool firework show. Basically the entire sky lit up with colored mist.
We also found an old Hannah Montana towel left behind by some long forgotten party attendee from years past. It proved entertaining.
With the exception of a little arrest of the man in the camper next to ours at 3am the night of the 4th, the trip was very relaxing and lovely. We all got burned on the beach, but whatevs. The fam and I got to hang out on the sand and play beach volleyball, so it all worked out. We finished our last day at our favorite local coffee shop, The Orange Cat Cafe, inspired by the neighborhood kitty, Morris. They have board games, books, and delicious food and coffee, so we spent a nice long time in there. For dinner, we stopped in Santa Barbara for some Super Cuca’s – my friends and I would meet here and have the best burritos in the world during college, so I make sure to stop here whenever possible for both deliciousness and nostalgia… Perfect end to the trip.
